Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has threatened to institute legal proceedings against the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), over statements allegedly made during a recent television interview.

In a formal letter of claim dated September 7, 2026, El-Rufai, through his lawyers, demanded the immediate retraction of the statements, an unreserved public apology and the preservation of all materials connected with the broadcast.
The letter was issued by the Chambers of Ubong Akpan following an interview aired on September 3, 2026.
El-Rufai’s lawyers alleged that Musa made several statements concerning banditry, killings, demolitions, ransom payments and their client’s conduct while serving as Governor of Kaduna State.
According to the lawyers, the remarks were false, defamatory and capable of damaging El-Rufai’s reputation in the estimation of right-thinking members of society.
They further maintained that the allegedly defamatory statements had been widely circulated because the interview remained accessible through terrestrial television, satellite television and online streaming platforms.
The legal team demanded that Musa and his representatives acknowledge receipt of the letter within 24 hours and provide a substantive written response within seven days.
They also requested that all recordings, transcripts, correspondence and other materials relating to the interview be preserved in anticipation of possible legal proceedings.
The lawyers warned that El-Rufai reserved the right to pursue all legal remedies available to him if the demands were not met within the stipulated period.
