*Davido Urges Vigilance As Questions Arise Over Result Recording At Polling Unit

Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has taken an early lead in the ongoing collation of Saturday’s governorship election results, polling 177,572 votes from the partial figures available as the Independent National Electoral Commission continues uploading polling-unit results to its Result Viewing Portal.
Figures from the Nigeria Elections Intelligence System covering 303 of the state’s 332 wards put Adeleke at 177,572 votes, representing 50.5 per cent of votes captured in the partial collation, while his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, had 158,588 votes, representing 45.1 per cent.
The figures give Adeleke a provisional lead of 18,984 votes, with results from 29 wards still outstanding in the dataset at the time of the report.
African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam was placed third with 5,917 votes.
The figures remain preliminary and do not constitute an official declaration by INEC, which had not announced a winner as collation continued across the state’s 30 local government areas.
INEC had scheduled the Osun governorship election for August 15, 2026, with voting taking place across 3,763 polling units in the state.
The partial collation data covering the 303 wards listed 845,100 registered voters in the areas so far captured, of whom 361,500 were accredited, representing a turnout of approximately 42.8 per cent.
A total of 351,500 valid votes were reported in the partial figures, while 7,200 ballots were recorded as rejected.
Electronic transmission of polling-unit results was also continuing through the INEC Result Viewing Portal.
At an earlier stage of the exercise, 43.41 per cent of polling units were reported to have uploaded their results. By 5:51 p.m., a separate check showed that 1,695 of the state’s 3,763 polling-unit results had been uploaded.
INEC had said ahead of the election that BVAS devices would be deployed across all 3,763 polling units, with additional backup machines, and that polling-unit results would be uploaded to IReV to enhance transparency and public access.
The unfolding results prompted reactions from Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who is a nephew of Governor Adeleke and has openly campaigned for his re-election.
Davido claimed that his uncle was heading towards victory and also alleged that the APC had lost in the ward associated with former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande.
“Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!” he wrote.
The singer also urged residents and Accord Party supporters to remain vigilant throughout the collation process.
“I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee,” he added, referring to former Osun governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Davido did not provide evidence in the posts for his allegation concerning Oyetola, and the claim had not been independently established.
In another post, the singer expressed confidence that Adeleke was winning and urged security agencies not to withdraw personnel from election locations while result processing continued.
“We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units,” he said.
Davido had earlier raised concerns about the transmission of polling-unit results, alleging that reports had reached him that some Presiding Officers intended to input figures only after arriving at collation centres.
He urged voters to ensure results were entered on Form EC8A, signed by the appropriate officials and uploaded to IReV before leaving their polling units.
His interventions came as sorting, counting and collation proceeded following the conclusion of voting across Osun.
The three prominent candidates had separately expressed confidence about their chances after casting their ballots.
Adeleke voted at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area and expressed optimism that he would retain the governorship.
Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, cast his ballot at Ward 09, Unit 011 in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, and similarly expressed confidence of victory.
Oyebamiji is contesting alongside his running mate, Benjamin Adereti, while Adeleke’s running mate is Kola Adenusi.
Salaam of the ADC, meanwhile, raised concerns about what he described as the non-recognition of some of his party’s agents in parts of the state.
Another issue arose over the recording of results at one polling unit after an Osun resident, David Adesina, alleged that the Accord Party’s figure was initially entered incorrectly before being corrected.
In a video circulated on Saturday, Adesina said the Accord Party scored 212 votes at the polling unit, while the APC polled 107.
He alleged that after counting was completed, a National Youth Service Corps member involved in the process initially entered the Accord Party’s result as “012” rather than “212.”
“We said not 012, it was supposed to be 212,” Adesina said.
According to him, those present immediately challenged the entry and the figure was subsequently corrected to 212 and signed.
“Later, you now change it to 212 and you now sign on it,” he said while recounting what transpired.
Adesina appealed for public attention to be drawn to the incident to ensure that the corrected figure was not subsequently altered.
“Please let all the world hear this so that later later they will not change it for us. Thank you and God bless you,” he said.
The account indicates that the disputed figure was corrected at the polling unit, although the circumstances surrounding the initial entry were not independently established.
The election remains undecided, notwithstanding Adeleke’s lead in the partial figures.
Official results are expected to pass through the prescribed collation process before the Returning Officer announces the final scores and declares a winner.
Until that process is completed, figures from IReV, polling units or independent election-tracking platforms remain provisional and should not be treated as INEC’s final declaration of the Osun State governorship election.
