A man, Nura Usman, and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, have been brought before a Magistrate Court sitting in Nomansland, Kano State, over an alleged plot to murder Nura’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono.

The defendants are facing charges bordering on conspiracy and attempted murder arising from an alleged arrangement to hire an assassin to kill Shanono at Dantsinke Quarters in Kano.

According to the allegations before the court, Nura and his mother allegedly engaged a man to carry out the killing and paid him ₦500,000 for the assignment.

The alleged plan, however, reportedly took an unexpected turn when the man hired for the purported assassination disclosed the arrangement to Shanono instead of carrying it out.

It was alleged that Shanono and the supposed assassin subsequently devised a plan to make the defendants believe that the killing had been successfully executed.

As part of the alleged arrangement, Shanono reportedly handed over his wristwatch and other personal belongings to the man, who then presented the items to the defendants as evidence that he had carried out the purported assassination.

Believing Shanono was dead, the defendants allegedly announced his death, prompting relatives, sympathisers and other mourners to gather.

The alleged plot was subsequently exposed, leading to the arrest and prosecution of Nura and his mother.

They are now facing proceedings before the Magistrate Court on allegations of conspiracy and attempted murder.

The charges against the defendants remain allegations, and they are entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a competent court.
