The National Industrial Court has alerted the public to an alleged fraudulent attempt by an unknown person or group to impersonate the President of the Court, Hon. Justice Benedict Kanyip, PhD, OFR, for the purpose of soliciting contracts and obtaining money from unsuspecting members of the public.

In a public notice, the Court said the impersonator has been using the name and identity of Justice Kanyip to communicate with members of the public, solicit contract opportunities, request payments and seek other forms of financial assistance.

According to the notice, the alleged impersonator has been operating through the telephone number +234 707 532 0106.

The Court categorically stated that the number does not belong to Justice Kanyip and has not been authorised for use by him or on his behalf.

Members of the public were therefore advised to disregard any message, phone call, WhatsApp communication or other correspondence from the number purporting to come from the President of the Court.

The Court also cautioned members of the public against making payments, transferring funds, disclosing confidential information or entering into any contractual arrangement based on such communication.

It said the matter was being taken seriously and that necessary steps would be taken to bring the alleged fraudulent activities to the attention of the appropriate security agencies for investigation and action.

The Court urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify any purported contract offer or official communication through its authorised channels.

It further dissociated itself completely from the activities of the impersonator and urged anyone who receives such solicitation to report the matter promptly to the appropriate authorities.
