The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released activists Peter Akah, popularly known as Randy Peter, and Oruche Ogeamara Precious, widely known as Mama Pee, after questioning them for approximately 11 hours at its headquarters in Abuja.

The activists, who honoured an invitation from the anti-graft agency at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, were released on self-recognition shortly after midnight and directed to return to the commission’s office on Thursday, July 16, for further investigation.

Their colleague, Justice Cracks, who accompanied them to the EFCC headquarters, confirmed their release in a post on X.

“My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee__, were invited by the @officialEFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day,” he said.

According to him, the activists were allowed to leave the commission’s office after spending nearly 11 hours with investigators.

“They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine,” he added.

Justice Cracks also shared a video recorded from the car park of the EFCC headquarters while he waited for the activists to conclude their engagement with the commission.

Earlier on Wednesday, concerns were raised over the whereabouts of the activists after they remained inside the EFCC headquarters for several hours without any public explanation from the agency.

Esther Umoh, the photographer attached to Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, disclosed on X that the duo had honoured the invitation but had yet to be released at the time of her post.

“@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honoured the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission,” she wrote.

Their prolonged stay at the commission’s office sparked speculation on social media that they might have been arrested or detained.

Justice Cracks subsequently allayed the concerns by confirming that they had been released and were expected to return to the EFCC headquarters as directed.

The EFCC has not publicly disclosed the reason for inviting or questioning the activists.

No formal charge or specific allegation of financial wrongdoing had been announced against them as of the time of filing this report.

The activists have also not publicly explained the subject of the interrogation or the nature of the documents and information requested by the commission.

Their directive to return to the EFCC office indicates that the investigation remains ongoing.

Randy Peter and Mama Pee are prominent social media activists associated with the Obidient political movement and have frequently commented on governance, elections, corruption and other national issues.

They have also participated in political campaigns, public demonstrations and online advocacy, including criticism of government institutions and the conduct of elections.

Their supporters consequently raised concerns that the invitation could be connected to their political activities and criticism of the government.

However, there is no official evidence from the EFCC linking the invitation to their political views or involvement in opposition activities.

Another theory circulating on social media suggested that the invitation might have followed a formal petition relating to crowdfunding, financial transactions or disputes involving other online personalities.

Both activists have been involved in highly publicised disagreements with some social media figures, including controversial activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

The online disputes have involved conflicting accounts of court proceedings, legal representation, public campaigns and other matters.

Nevertheless, neither the EFCC nor the activists has confirmed that any such dispute or petition was responsible for the invitation.

Until the anti-graft agency provides an official explanation, claims that the questioning was politically motivated or connected to a private petition remain unverified speculation.

Randy Peter and Mama Pee are expected to return to the EFCC office for further questioning as the commission continues its investigation.
