The Delta State Police Command has arrested a content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman, identified as Favour Agbro, who later died after reportedly taking a toxic substance.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, saying the case followed a petition received by the police over an incident that allegedly occurred on June 1, 2026.

According to the police, the deceased reportedly travelled from Warri to Asaba at the invitation of Ogbonna, who allegedly offered to train her in content creation through a programme promoted on his social media platform.

The police said that upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence.

Edafe said the young woman later returned home visibly distressed and reported the incident to her parents.

“In the aftermath of the alleged assault, the deceased made a video recording in which she recounted her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident,” the police said.

The command said she later died after ingesting a toxic substance, despite efforts to save her life.

Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command, Effurun, to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations.

Acting on the directive, police operatives commenced investigation and arrested Ogbonna.

The police said the suspect made useful statements during preliminary questioning, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

A video has also surfaced online showing Ogbonna apologising to the family of the deceased, including her twin sister.

In the viral clip, the suspect was seen pleading for forgiveness over the incident.

“This is a terrible mistake; I’m ready to give up everything. Please forgive me,” he said in the video.

The police commissioner assured the family of the deceased and the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked.

He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to conducting a professional investigation and ensuring that appropriate legal action is taken in accordance with the law.

The suspect has not been convicted of the allegations.
