Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mutalubi Ojo Adebayo, SAN, has urged the President of the Nigerian Bar Association to reach out to the National Identity Management Commission for possible partnership in strengthening the credibility of the forthcoming NBA election.

In a letter dated July 11, 2026, Adebayo said he made the appeal following a discussion with the Director-General of NIMC, Engineer Abisoye Coker-Odusote, at a dinner organised in Abuja by Abiodun Olatunji, SAN, to celebrate the Call to Bar of his daughter, Anjola-Oluwa Olatunji.

According to him, several Senior Advocates of Nigeria were present at the event, including Olabisi Soyebo, SAN; Rotimi Oguneso, SAN; Babatunde Ogala, SAN; Seun Abimbola, SAN; Dipo Tolani, SAN; and Adeola Adedipe, SAN.

Adebayo said the dinner gave him the opportunity to ask the NIMC Director-General whether it was feasible to use the National Identification Number of legal practitioners for the purpose of conducting the NBA election scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026.

He said the NIMC DG answered in the affirmative and stated that the Commission could integrate the NIN of Nigerian legal practitioners into the ECNBA voters’ register within two days, or 48 hours, if formally requested by the NBA or the Electoral Committee of the NBA.

According to the senior lawyer, Coker-Odusote also assured him that NIMC was ready and willing to partner with the NBA to improve and strengthen its electoral process.

Adebayo said, “The DG of NIMC answered in affirmative and even asserted that NIMC would integrate the NIN of all the Nigerian Legal Practitioners on the ECNBA voters’ register within two days or 48 hours of the request for same by either the NBA or the ECNBA.”

He added that he believed the assurance given by the NIMC boss and urged the NBA President to take advantage of the offer.

The SAN noted that since the NBA President had invited the embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union Commission, as well as some local and international organisations to observe the forthcoming electronic election, it would also be proper to involve NIMC in the process.

He appealed to the NBA President to contact the NIMC DG for partnership and assistance in the quest to conduct a free, fair, credible and transparent Bar election.

“Further to your invitation to the embassies of the USA, the UK, the EU Commission and some local and international organisations to observe the forthcoming Bar election, I want to appeal to you to also kindly reach out to the DG of NIMC for their partnership and assistance in your quest to have a free, fair, credible and transparent election for the Bar,” he said.
