Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chinyere Moneme, SAN, has commended Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, for what she described as her courage, integrity and capacity in seeking the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Moneme, in a tribute to Badejo-Okusanya, said it takes boldness and uncommon commitment to contest for the leadership of what she described as the largest Bar in Africa.

She recalled that both of them were elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2025 as the only two women conferred with the rank that year, adding that the shared experience deepened their mutual admiration and respect.

“Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo and I were elevated to the Inner Bar in 2025. Being the two women elevated that year, our admiration and mutual respect for each other grew,” Moneme said.

She noted that while she often complained about the challenges facing the NBA, Badejo-Okusanya chose to take action by entering the presidential race.

“While I complained about the problems facing the Nigerian Bar Association, she decided to do something about it,” she added.

Moneme praised Badejo-Okusanya’s sacrifices during the campaign, recalling a late-night call that revealed the extent of her commitment to the Bar.

“It takes a truly bold woman to run for the President of the largest Bar in Africa. It’s no mean feat,” she said.

“I called you one night around 10 p.m., thinking you would already be in bed, only to discover that you were somewhere in the core North, travelling between two towns to attend an NBA event the following morning. Only God has kept you.”

Describing Badejo-Okusanya’s campaign as one driven by principle, Moneme said she had demonstrated the qualities needed for leadership.

“You’ve run with integrity, courage and capacity,” she said.

Moneme further disclosed that Badejo-Okusanya’s example had encouraged her to take a major professional step of her own.

“Because of your example, I’ve decided to take another bold step in my professional life that may be the end of me. But if you can do it, so can I,” she said.

Her remarks add to the growing public commentary around Badejo-Okusanya’s campaign for the NBA presidency, particularly from senior members of the legal profession who have praised her participation in the race as a significant statement of courage and leadership.
