Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya SAN has received the backing of respected legal scholar, Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, SAN, for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association ahead of the 2026 NBA national elections.

Ojukwu, in a statement titled, “Nigerian Bar Association Election 2026 – NBA Decides 2026,” said he had observed with interest the number of his friends and distinguished colleagues seeking election as President of the Bar.

He stated that without diminishing the credentials or capacities of other candidates, Badejo-Okusanya stands apart.

According to him, he has followed her journey and contributions to the Bar since 2004 and believes she possesses the qualities required for leadership at the highest level of the Association.

Ojukwu described her as deeply committed to service, selfless, hardworking, confident, courageous and remarkably open to ideas, guidance and collaboration.

He said what excites him most is the boldness of her vision for the future of the NBA, adding that she brings fresh thinking, energy and a willingness to confront difficult issues with clarity and conviction.

“I am persuaded that her leadership would mark a significant and positive turning point in the governance and administration of the Nigerian Bar Association,” Ojukwu said.

He therefore declared his full support for Badejo-Okusanya’s candidacy for NBA President.

“Accordingly, I wholeheartedly support Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association,” he stated.

Ojukwu also spoke on the race for the office of General Secretary, describing it as highly competitive and populated by several exceptionally qualified candidates.

He, however, said Afam Okeke stands out among the candidates.

“I speak from experience,” Ojukwu said.

He recalled Okeke’s tenure as Chairman of the NBA Abuja Branch, saying he delivered transformative leadership at a time the branch was emerging from years of factionalisation and internal divisions.

According to him, the Abuja Branch had always been considered active because of its size and membership strength, but Okeke redefined what an active branch should look like.

Ojukwu said that under Okeke’s leadership, members did not merely attend events but participated enthusiastically, volunteered their time and contributed resources because they trusted his leadership and respected his integrity.

“He united people. He inspired confidence. He built a sense of ownership among members,” Ojukwu said.

He expressed confidence that Okeke would bring humility, selflessness, diligence, respect for colleagues and exceptional team spirit to the office of NBA General Secretary.

“For these reasons, I am pleased to support Afam Okeke for the office of General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association,” he added.

Ojukwu urged members of the Bar to support candidates who embody competence, integrity, service and the capacity to unite and inspire the legal profession.
