The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The appointment, announced on Friday by the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is aimed at strengthening strategic communication, transparency and public engagement in support of ongoing policing reforms.

A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, CSP Iniedu brings extensive experience in public communication, intelligence management, operational policing, institutional accountability and administration to the role.

Prior to his appointment, he served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he oversaw public complaint management and championed initiatives designed to improve accountability, transparency and public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

Iniedu is a graduate of the University of Uyo, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry. He has also undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, intelligence analysis, strategic communication and human rights-based policing.

Over the course of his career, he has held several operational and administrative positions across the country. He previously served as Public Relations Officer at the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, where he played a key role in managing public communication and enhancing the institution’s image.

He also served as Operations Officer at the Maisandari Division of the Yobe State Police Command and later as Area Crime Officer at the Umuahia Area Command in Abia State.

Other positions held by the new police spokesman include Staff Officer at the Inspector-General’s Secretariat, Force Headquarters; Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa, Abuja; and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.

As head of the Situation Room, Iniedu supervised the coordination, monitoring and dissemination of crime and security information nationwide, a role considered critical to national policing operations and intelligence management.

The Inspector-General of Police expressed confidence in Iniedu’s capacity to lead the Force Public Relations Department and advance the Force’s communication objectives.

According to the police leadership, his wealth of experience is expected to strengthen the Force’s strategic communication framework, improve public engagement and support effective dissemination of information on policing activities and operational successes across the country.

CSP Iniedu succeeds Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid, who announced the appointment in a statement issued from the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
