The Osun State Police Command has called for calm following the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo dismissing the tenure elongation suit filed by All Progressives Congress local government chairmen and councillors in the state.

The command, in a statement issued on Friday in Osogbo by its spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said it was aware of the tension generated by the judgment and was closely monitoring the conduct, statements and actions of all parties involved.
Ojelabi urged political actors, their supporters and members of the public to remain peaceful and follow established legal procedures in enforcing court judgments.
“The attention of the command has been drawn to the rising tension following the recent judgment delivered by the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo over the local government dispute,” the statement said.
“We are closely monitoring the conduct, statements and actions of all parties involved. It is pertinent to note that there are laid-down legal procedures for the execution of court judgments, with due consideration for the right of appeal.”
The police spokesperson said the rule of law remains the foundation of democratic society and warned parties against taking steps outside the law.
“The rule of law remains the foundation of our democratic society; therefore, all parties are enjoined to strictly comply with established legal procedures when seeking to enforce judgments,” he added.
Ojelabi warned that the command would not tolerate lawlessness or extrajudicial actions capable of threatening the peace of the state.
He said all grievances and enforcement steps must be channelled through appropriate legal and judicial mechanisms.
The command also disclosed that it had been placed on heightened alert to ensure the maintenance of law and order across the state.
“The command will not hesitate to take decisive action against any individual or group that attempts to disrupt the peace or violate the law,” Ojelabi said.
The Federal High Court in Osogbo had on Monday dismissed the tenure elongation suit filed by APC local government chairmen and councillors following the expiration of their tenure in November 2025.
