Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have rescued Hajiya Amina Abubakar Rabe, wife of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, after terrorists reportedly shot and abandoned her during a military operation in Katsina State.

The rescue was carried out by troops of the 17 Brigade under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III following intelligence-led offensives in Matazu Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.

The operation followed the abduction incident involving the retired senior military officer and members of his family.

According to military sources, troops conducting a search-and-rescue mission made contact with the bandits at Tunga village, forcing the attackers to flee under sustained pressure.

A military source said the terrorists shot Hajiya Amina and abandoned her when troops closed in on them.

“The bandits shot her and fled when we made contact at Tunga village. We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She is bleeding, we have given her first aid and are moving her for urgent medical attention,” the source said.

The source added that the victim was stabilised at the scene by troops before being evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.

Military authorities said follow-up operations had been intensified across the area, with troops pursuing the fleeing terrorists and suspected kingpins believed to be responsible for the attack and earlier abduction.

They said the ongoing clearance operation under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III would continue until criminal hideouts in the area are dismantled.

Security sources added that the military remains committed to tracking down those responsible and ensuring they are brought to justice.
