The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has confirmed the killing of two suspected members of a kidnapping gang allegedly terrorising residents of the territory.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters.

Sanusi said he personally led the operation that resulted in the rescue of five residents abducted from Paze community in Byazhin Ward, Bwari Area Council, last week.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped when armed men invaded Paze community on Thursday. During the attack, a local vigilante member identified as Shuaibu Yerima was said to have been shot dead.

According to the police commissioner, the rescue operation was carried out by a joint security team comprising operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team, IRT, and the Kubwa Area Command, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups.

He said the operation commenced at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, when the joint team launched an intensive search, clearance and rescue mission across Paze and Byazhin communities.

Sanusi disclosed that the operation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman, while other members of the gang fled into nearby hills.

He added that two suspected gang members were shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with the security operatives.

The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles with magazines during the operation.

The commissioner said the five rescued victims had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention and would be reunited with their families after necessary procedures.

Sanusi further stated that search operations were still ongoing across the area and adjoining communities to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network.

He called on healthcare practitioners, private and public hospitals, as well as members of the public, to promptly report any person seeking treatment for gunshot injuries or presenting suspicious wounds.

The police commissioner assured residents that the command would continue its operations against criminal elements in the FCT and urged members of the public to support security agencies with timely information.
