Afam O. Okeke, Esq., Immediate Past Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Abuja Branch, has formally opened his campaign for the office of General Secretary of the NBA for the 2026–2028 term, with a promise to build a Secretariat that is accessible, responsive and service-driven.

Okeke announced his aspiration as the campaign period for the NBA election officially commenced, describing his bid as a call to strengthen the Secretariat and make it more useful to every member of the Association.

In a statement titled “The Campaign For An Accessible Secretariat Starts Today,” he said his vision is to promote a Secretariat that works for all lawyers, irrespective of branch, location, age at the Bar or area of practice.

According to him, the NBA Secretariat must be accessible to members, responsive to their needs, effective in communication, open to technology and committed to treating every lawyer with dignity and respect.

“This is more than a campaign. It is a vision for a Secretariat that serves every lawyer,” Okeke stated.

He said his years of service to the Bar have been defined by practical leadership, institutional growth and a people-centred approach to administration.

Okeke noted that from his interactions with lawyers across various branches, one concern has remained consistent: members want an NBA that is easier to engage, more efficient in service delivery and genuinely responsive to their professional needs.

He said that concern forms the foundation of his campaign for General Secretary.

“In my years of service to the Bar, I have stayed committed to practical leadership, institutional growth, and putting people first. I have listened to colleagues across branches and one message has been clear: lawyers want an NBA that is easier to engage, more efficient in service delivery, and truly responsive to their needs,” he said.

Okeke promised that, in the coming weeks, he would engage lawyers nationwide and present practical ideas on how to build a Secretariat that embraces innovation and delivers better service to members.

He said the time had come to make the NBA Secretariat more accessible, more effective and more connected to the daily realities of lawyers.

The former NBA Abuja Branch Chairman invited members of the Association to join him in what he described as a journey towards a Secretariat that works for every lawyer.

Okeke is running his campaign under the hashtags #AccessibleSecretariat, #TheTimeIsNow, #ReadyToServe, #AfamOkeke, #NBA2026, and #ServiceWithResults.
