Isaac Fayose has criticised his elder brother and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over his recent comments on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, Isaac faulted the former governor’s remarks, describing them as unnecessary, misleading and politically insensitive.

Ayodele Fayose had, during a televised interview on Channels Television on Monday, alleged that the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State may have been orchestrated by the Oyo State Government to embarrass President Bola Tinubu.

“I sometimes believe that the abduction at Oyo school was orchestrated by the Oyo State Government to blackmail President Tinubu,” Fayose had said.

He also accused Governor Makinde of failing to act promptly after the abduction, claiming the governor only visited the victims’ families after attending political activities.

But reacting to the comment, Isaac Fayose said his brother had no basis to single out Makinde over insecurity, arguing that similar incidents had occurred in several states without such accusations being levelled against their governors.

He recalled that kidnappings also took place in Ekiti State years ago, yet his brother did not blame the governor at the time.

“Four, five years ago, they kidnapped people in Ekiti State, and you’re supporting the governor. Why didn’t you tell the governor that you are collecting security vote? Why can’t you protect Ekiti people?” he asked.

Isaac also questioned what he described as selective criticism of governors over insecurity, pointing to states controlled by the All Progressives Congress where killings and abductions have also occurred.

“People are looking at you and saying, ‘What is this man turning to? So you mean people that have been dying in APC states, Borno, Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kwara, their governors pocket their security vote?’” he said.

He urged his elder brother to stop making controversial political statements, warning that speaking without proper context could damage his public image.

“My brother, if you don’t have anything to say, please stay quiet like any other former governors. It’s not by force to be relevant,” Isaac said.

The exchange comes amid heightened public concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State and ongoing efforts by the state and federal governments to secure their release.
