The Council of Legal Education, through the Nigerian Law School, has announced the commencement of applications for admission into the 2026 Bar Part I Programme.

According to a public notice issued by the Nigerian Law School, the application process will open on Monday, May 25, 2026, and close on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The programme is scheduled to commence on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Nigerian Law School Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

In the notice signed by the Secretary to Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke O. Osho, the Council stated that the programme is open only to Nigerian graduates of Law from Common Law countries whose law courses have been approved by the Council of Legal Education.

The Council, however, made it clear that law degrees obtained through part-time study, Open University, long-distance learning or online modes of study will not be recognised for admission into the programme.

Prospective applicants are required to visit the Nigerian Law School website, complete the application form and forward it to the designated email address on or before Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The notice further directed that applicants’ academic transcripts and completed Forms B, B1 and B2 must be forwarded from the official email addresses of their universities and employers, where applicable, to the Nigerian Law School on or before Friday, July 17, 2026.

It also stated that the subject of all emails must contain the applicant’s name and application number.

The Nigerian Law School warned that all application documents must be received within the stipulated period, stressing that late submission of documents will not be entertained.

Applicants were also advised to note their application numbers for subsequent access to their admission status.

The Council urged interested applicants to follow only official communication channels of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Law School for further enquiries, updates and announcements.

The announcement is expected to generate discussion within legal education circles, particularly over the continued exclusion of part-time, online, open university and distance-learning law degrees from admission into the Nigerian Law School.

The development comes as the Council of Legal Education continues to enforce eligibility standards for entry into the Nigerian Law School and qualification into the Nigerian legal profession.
