Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has confirmed the killing of a wanted senior leader and global second in command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, in Nigeria.

Recall that the United States (US) President, Donald Trump, announced Saturday morning that the US forces, working alongside the Nigerian Armed Forces, carried out a joint operation that led to the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki.
In a statement on his Truth Social account, Trump said the operation was carefully planned and successfully executed with intelligence support that tracked the activities of the terrorist leader in Africa.
According to the US president, the mission was aimed at removing one of the world’s most active terrorist figures, whom he accused of coordinating attacks and supporting operations targeting Americans and African communities.
Confirming the development in a statement he personally signed, the Nigerian President said the killing shows the significant example of effective collaboration between Nigeria and the US in the fight against terrorism.
“Counterterrorism Operation Against ISIS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki Overnight, Nigeria and the United States recorded a significant example of effective collaboration in the fight against terrorism.
“Our determined Nigerian Armed Forces, working closely with the Armed Forces of the United States, conducted a daring joint operation that dealt a heavy blow to the ranks of the Islamic State.
“Early assessments confirm the elimination of the wanted IS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, along with several of his lieutenants, during a strike on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives,” the statement partly reads.
Continuing, Tinubu appreciated President Trump for his leadership and support, while also hailing the personnel involved in the operation.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to President Trump for his leadership and unwavering support in this effort. I commend the personnel involved on both sides for their professionalism and courage, and I look forward to more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves across the nation,” Tinubu added.
