Senior Advocate of Nigeria and candidate for the 2026 presidency of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, has called for deliberate investment in the upbringing, mentorship, and protection of the boy child, saying the future of society depends largely on how boys are raised today.

Akangbe made the call in his message to mark the 2026 International Day of the Boy Child, themed “Positive Masculinity.”

He said the theme underscores the need to guide boys intentionally to grow into men of integrity, responsibility, compassion, and purpose.

According to him, a properly nurtured boy grows into a responsible father, dependable leader, respectful partner, and worthy contributor to society.

“As lawyers, we understand the importance of values, discipline, and accountability. We see daily the consequences of broken homes, poor mentorship, and lost direction. This is why investing in the boy child is not just a family responsibility, it is a national duty,” he said.

Akangbe stressed that boys must be taught that true strength lies in character, true leadership is service, and true masculinity is built on respect, self-control, and integrity.

He noted that the future of the Bar, leadership, and Nigeria depends on the kind of men being raised today.

“I believe strongly that building a better nation begins with raising better boys,” he said.

He urged families, institutions, and society at large to celebrate, mentor, protect, and prepare the boy child for the responsibilities of tomorrow.

Akangbe wished boys across the country a happy International Day of the Boy Child.
