Renowned legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, has underscored the importance of Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms, describing taxation as a critical area where law, policy, and economic development intersect.

Gadzama, an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, made the remarks while participating virtually from Florida, United States, in the 28th Annual Tax Conference organised by the CITN.

The conference, themed “Tax Reforms and Global Relevance: Positioning Nigeria’s Tax System for a Sustainable Future,” is holding at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Speaking on his participation, Gadzama said he was pleased to join the conference despite being outside the country, noting that the sessions had exposed him to several topical issues in taxation.

“I am happy to join the 2026 CITN Tax Conference virtually from Florida. It is a pity that I am not in Nigeria to attend physically, which I would have loved to. I am enjoying it tremendously as I am being educated and enlightened on many topical tax issues,” he said.

The learned Silk commended the organisers for providing a seamless virtual platform that enabled global participation, adding that continuous professional development remains essential in strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal and legal systems.

According to him, the relationship between law and taxation is vital to building a resilient economy, particularly at a time when Nigeria is pursuing reforms aimed at aligning its tax system with global best practices.

Gadzama’s participation also highlighted the growing synergy between the legal and tax professions, as discussions at the conference focused on domestic tax reforms, global relevance, fiscal policy, and sustainable economic growth.

The annual conference brings together tax professionals, legal practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to examine the future of Nigeria’s tax system amid changing global economic realities.
