Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Thursday formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Makinde made the declaration at a mega rally held at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid growing political realignments in the state following the factionalisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing supporters at the rally, Makinde said the alliance between his PDP faction and the APM was part of a broader political movement he described as the “Reset Nigeria Movement.”

“Therefore, today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared.

The governor said the alliance was necessary to resist what he described as an alleged plot to foist a one-party system on Nigeria, stressing that the country must be reset by confronting its socio-economic and political challenges.

“This is the time to confront our fears. Do not be afraid,” Makinde said, urging Nigerians to participate actively in national development as citizens and not as onlookers.

Makinde had earlier led the Taminu Turaki faction of the PDP in Oyo State to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the APM as part of a strategic alliance for the forthcoming elections.

The agreement was signed by Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, on behalf of both parties.

Under the arrangement, candidates of the PDP faction loyal to Makinde and contesting for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats are expected to run on the platform of the APM rather than the PDP in the 2027 elections.
