Yakubu Philemon, SAN, has formally flagged off the female league category of the ongoing 10th edition of the Abuja Lawyers League, held in honour of Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, OFR, CON.

The event, which took place amid cheers and a standing ovation, marked another memorable moment in the Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, OFR, CON Champions Cup 2026, one of the foremost football competitions among lawyers in Nigeria.

Philemon, who is regarded as one of the strong supporters and pillars of the Abuja Lawyers League, performed the ceremonial kick-off to signal the commencement of the female category of the competition.

The opening match of the female league was between Gemmas FC and City Strikers FC, with Gemmas FC securing a 2-1 victory. The second match ended in a goalless draw between Phoenix FC and the defending champions, Legal Ballers FC.

Meanwhile, in the male category, Philemon FC will face Y.C. Maikyau FC in a decisive Group A fixture, with a quarter-final ticket at stake.

Philemon FC, owned by the learned silk, Yakubu Philemon, SAN, will take on the team of the immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Y.C. Maikyau, SAN, in what is expected to be one of the most anticipated fixtures of the tournament.

The match is scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Astro Turf, No. 41 Accra Street, Zone 5, Wuse, Abuja, by 12 noon.

With both teams battling for qualification from Group A, attention will now turn to the crucial encounter as lawyers, supporters and football lovers within the legal community await the outcome.
