THE Kwankwasiyya Movement, a pro-Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s political group, has rejected the proposed voter revalidation exercise, warning that it could disenfranchise millions of eligible Nigerians ahead of future elections.

According to a statement signed by its spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, the move was described as “ill-timed” and a threat to democratic participation.
The Kwankwassiya movement argued that introducing the exercise close to major elections would create confusion and impose unnecessary administrative barriers on voters.
“The revalidation exercise bears all the hallmarks of a systemic trap capable of suppressing voter turnout and excluding law-abiding citizens from exercising their fundamental right to vote,” Mohammed said.
Kwankwasiyya Movement further alleged that the policy could disproportionately affect opposition supporters, warning that it risks distorting electoral participation and undermining the credibility of the democratic process.
It also criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing it of actions that “inspire doubt rather than confidence,” and failing to act as a stabilising force amid growing political and legal uncertainties.
According to the statement, the proposed voter revalidation, alongside ongoing judicial disputes within political parties, signals a broader pattern that could weaken Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group called for the immediate suspension of the exercise, insisting that any electoral reform must prioritise inclusion and transparency.
It also urged stakeholders, including civil society organisations and the international community, to remain vigilant in safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic space, stressing that “the will of the people must not be compromised.”
