An artisan, Ogunsanwo Mukaila, who was severely injured, has formally demanded compensation from an indigenous construction firm, JRB Construction Limited, in an incident that left him incapacitated and unable to sustain his livelihood.

In a letter dated March 25, 2026, written through his lawyer, Ademola Adefolaju of Lords & Temple law firm, the artisan stated that he sustained life-altering injuries on July 25, 2025, during construction activities on the 13-kilometre Igbogbo–Offin Oreta Road project.

The project, valued at N1.7 billion, was ongoing at the time of the incident.

According to the letter, the incident involved a concrete mixer and resulted in severe injuries to his left leg and hand, leaving him unable to continue his primary means of livelihood.

Ogunsanwo further stated that the company initially provided N3.65 million for medical treatment, but the money was insufficient, as he spent an additional N1.65 million on urgent care.

He added that he still has surgical implants in his body and requires further medical procedures for which he currently lacks funds.

In addition to the physical injuries, he said his motorcycle, which is his primary source of income, was damaged in the incident and has remained in police custody since then.

His lawyer argued that the situation has led to prolonged hardship, financial strain and suffering for his client.

Consequently, the artisan is demanding N50 million in general damages, with compensation for medical expenses, loss of income, and the repair or replacement of the damaged motorcycle.

The firm has been given a seven-day ultimatum to respond to the demands or face legal action.
