The Supreme Court of Nigeria has officially announced the opening of the Notary Public Application Portal for eligible legal practitioners, effective April 1, 2026.

In a press release dated March 26, 2026, and issued by the Office of the Chief Registrar, the apex court confirmed that applications are to be submitted strictly online via the designated portal at www.notary.supremecourt.gov.ng.

The Court confirmed that the application window will run from April 1 to June 30, 2026, giving eligible legal practitioners a three-month period to submit their applications.

The Chief Registrar, Kabir E. Akanbi, Esq., issued a firm warning that late submissions will not be entertained.

“Late submissions will not be accepted,” the press release stated.

Members of the Nigerian Bar Association are urged to take advantage of this window and ensure timely compliance with all application requirements.

Legal practitioners who meet the eligibility criteria for appointment as Notary Public are advised to prepare their documentation ahead of the April 1 portal opening to avoid last-minute complications.

The opening of the Notary Public Application Portal provides an opportunity for eligible lawyers to apply for appointment as Notaries Public — officers authorised to perform certain legal formalities, particularly the authentication of documents for use in international transactions.

With the Supreme Court emphasising that late submissions will not be accepted, lawyers interested in the appointment are advised to:

  • Visit the portal at www.notary.supremecourt.gov.ng from April 1, 2026
  • Ensure all required documents are ready before the portal opens
  • Submit applications well before the June 30, 2026 deadline
  • Avoid waiting until the last minute to prevent technical difficulties

The strict adherence to the deadline underscores the Supreme Court’s commitment to maintaining order in the application process and ensuring that only timely and complete applications are considered.
