*As 26 Lawyers Signify Interest For General Council Of The Bar

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has released the comprehensive list of aspirants who have submitted their Letters of Expression of Interest to contest in the 2026 NBA Elections, covering both National Officers and representatives to the General Council of the Bar (GCB).

In a notice dated March 2, 2026, the Committee clarified that the submission of letters of interest does not amount to formal nomination, emphasising that nomination remains a separate process in accordance with the NBA Constitution (2015 as amended in 2025) and relevant guidelines already issued.

Three Aspirants For Presidency

The race for the presidency features three aspirants:

  1. Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN (Lagos Branch, 2003)
  2. Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN (Abuja Branch, 1991)
  3. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya (Lagos Branch, 2002)

First Vice President

In the contest for First Vice President are:

  1. Chief Oghenero Okoro (Warri Branch, 1998)
  2. Luqman Laoye (Ibadan Branch, 1989)
  3. Onimisi Stephen Obajaja (Lagos Branch, 2003)

Second Vice President

Nuhu John Egya (Keffi Branch, 2010) is the sole aspirant vying for Second Vice President.

Third Vice President

Iniobong Irene Pepple (Port Harcourt Branch, 2001) is the sole aspirant listed for Third Vice President.

General Secretary

The General Secretary position has drawn multiple contenders:

  2. Barth Okoye-Aniche (Aba Branch, 1991)
  3. Chidi Vick Ezenwafor (Abuja Branch, 2008)

The ECNBA urged all aspirants and members of the Association to strictly comply with the provisions of the Constitution and existing campaign regulations, noting that the formal nomination process will be announced in due course.

The Committee reiterated that submission of a Letter of Expression of Interest does not amount to nomination, as nomination is a separate process under the NBA Constitution (2015 as amended in 2025). Aspirants are advised to comply strictly with all constitutional provisions and campaign guidelines.

Meanwhile, many lawyers have complained that ECNBA should be separate from NBA officials, as it currently communicates through NBA channels, including the email and website controlled by NBA officials.
