The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kaduna State Branch, has rejected claims by the Kaduna State Government that the ongoing strike by judiciary workers has been called off, describing the government’s publication as “misleading, premature, and a misrepresentation” of discussions held between both parties.

In a statement titled “Official Clarification And Counter-Statement” signed by the Assistant Secretary, Nasir Haroun, and the Vice Chairman, Donatus Adamu, on Sunday, February 23, 2026, the union categorically distanced itself from claims that the strike has been suspended or that all issues in dispute have been fully resolved.

“The attention of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kaduna State Branch, has been drawn to a publication titled: ‘Kaduna Government Resolves Dispute with JUSUN, Strike to Be Called Off Immediately.’ We consider the said publication to be misleading, premature, and a misrepresentation of the true position of discussions held between the Union and representatives of the Kaduna State Government,” the statement read.

The union stated that during the meeting held with the delegation of the Executive Arm of Government of Kaduna State, the union deliberated on the issues presented and accepted and agreed on Items 1 to 3, noted the Government’s promise to expedite action on Item 4, and agreed to the setting up of a micro-committee to address the issue of Financial Autonomy which is Item 5.

According to the union, it was jointly resolved that the union would take the outcome of the meeting to the JUSUN Congress and JUSUN National Headquarters for consideration and ratification.

“Specifically, the Union maintains that payment alerts on items agreed upon i.e (1-3) must be received before any consideration of suspending the strike action,” the statement emphasised.

“Accordingly, any information suggesting that the strike has been called off is false and should be disregarded by members of the public and the judiciary workforce.”

The union stated that its leadership remains committed to constructive engagement but will not compromise on concrete implementation of agreements reached.

The JUSUN clarification came in response to an earlier statement by the Kaduna State Government claiming that the dispute had been resolved and the strike called off.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, had explained that a high-level government delegation met with the State Executive Committee of JUSUN on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Attorney-General’s Chambers to address the issues in contention.

The union’s demands included the implementation of financial autonomy for the state judiciary, consequential salary adjustments arising from the new minimum wage, payment of outstanding salary arrears for April and May 2021, and settlement of leave grant arrears.

According to the government’s statement, following extensive deliberations, all issues were amicably resolved in line with Governor Uba Sani’s directive.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. James Kanyip, had described the meeting as fruitful, stating that the outcome reflects the governor’s strong commitment to industrial harmony and enhanced productivity in the public service.

The government statement had read: “The state government commends JUSUN’s leadership for its maturity and cooperation and urges judiciary staff to resume work immediately in the interest of effective justice delivery in Kaduna State.”

JUSUN Kaduna Rejects Government's Claim

However, JUSUN has now contradicted this narrative, insisting that the strike remains in force until payment alerts are received on the agreed items.
