Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, paid a New Year courtesy visit to his Abia State counterpart, Dr. Alex Otti, on Friday, emphasizing the importance of regional unity and collaborative development.

The meeting took place at Governor Otti’s country home in Umuehim Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, where Uzodinma described the visit as non-political, aimed solely at extending New Year greetings and offering prayers for continued strength in serving the people.

“My visit is a courtesy call to the Governor, who I have seen is doing very well,” Uzodinma told journalists. He commended Otti’s governance and reiterated the commitment of South-East governors to advancing the region through collaboration.

“We in the South-East are determined to develop the region. The only way we can do this is through collaboration,” he added. As Chairman of the Forum, Uzodinma highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure the South-East remains an integral part of Nigeria’s progress.

In response, Governor Otti welcomed the visit, stressing that political differences should not be viewed as opposition. “Government is one… You can disagree, but once a decision is taken, you are part and parcel of that decision,” Otti remarked, thanking Uzodinma for the gesture.

Both governors dismissed speculations of political motivations linked to upcoming elections, focusing instead on unity and good governance for the region.

In a separate development, renowned gospel singer Osinachi Joseph Egbu, popularly known as Sinach, and her husband, Pastor Joseph Egbu, visited Governor Otti to express appreciation for his administration’s support. The couple, natives of Abia State, praised Otti’s “intentional” leadership, highlighting visible transformations in infrastructure, environmental renewal, and citizen engagement. They also thanked him for supporting a recent medical outreach organized by their foundation in Aba.

Governor Otti expressed gratitude for the visit and pledged to intensify efforts for Abia’s development in the coming years.

However, a source told our reporter that during the visit, Uzodinma reportedly urged Otti to consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his earlier decision to not move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with Peter Obi. The source added that Otti declined, stating he is focused on serving Abians and has no plans to switch to any party for now, remaining aligned with the Labour Party.
