The Nigerian Bar Association has provided a step-by-step guide for lawyers to track their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, while urging legal practitioners to pay their 2026 Annual Bar Practicing Fees on or before March 31, 2026.

In a notice to colleagues, the NBA outlined the following steps:

STEP 1: Log on to your NBA dashboard through the link: https://portal.nigerianbar.org.ng/certificates

STEP 2: Click the 3 lines at the top right corner of your dashboard and select “Digital Center”

STEP 3: Click “CPD Tracker” to view breakdown of programs attended and CPD points awarded

The notice stated: “Should you have any complaint, require additional information or inquires, do not hesitate to contact NBA ICLE through; Icle@nigerianbar.org.ng or https://www.nbaicle.org/contact

Lawyers were advised to visit www.nbaicle.org to download the MCPD rules to stay informed.

“Do you wish to learn from Experts and enhance your legal skills? kindly visit https://www.nbaicle.org/trainings to register for preferred upcoming courses and trainings,” the notice added.

Meanwhile, the Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association, Blessing Udofa-Poromon, has called on legal practitioners to pay their 2026 Annual Bar Practicing Fees.

In a notice to learned colleagues, Udofa-Poromon stated: “As you are aware, legal practitioners are by law mandated to pay their Annual Bar Practicing Fee (‘BPF’) on or before the 31st day of March of every given year.”

The Treasurer explained that payment of the BPF within the prescribed timeframe comes with its attendant benefits, including:

  • License to practice
  • Notary Public Appointment
  • Attainment as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)
  • Judicial Appointments
  • Participation in Bar Activities
  • Access to finance scheme
  • Life Insurance, other welfare packages, etc

The Treasurer stated that “The BPF payments can be made online through your verified membership portal on the NBA website https://portal.nigerianbar.org.ng/login

The Schedule of BPF per year of call is as follows:

  • Senior Advocates & Honourable Benches – N50,000
  • Legal Practitioners of 15 years & above post call – N25,000
  • Legal Practitioners of 10 – 14 years post call – N17,500
  • Legal Practitioners of 5 – 9 years post call – N10,000
  • Legal Practitioners of 1 – 4 years post call – N5,000

The notices underscore the NBA’s emphasis on professional development and regulatory compliance among legal practitioners.

The CPD tracking system allows lawyers to monitor their participation in continuing education programs, while the Annual Bar Practicing Fee ensures practitioners maintain their license to practice and access various benefits.

With the March 31, 2026 deadline, lawyers have approximately three months to ensure payment of their Annual Bar Practicing Fees to avoid any disruption to their practice and benefits.
