Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the immediate dismissal of four of his aides over their alleged involvement in the physical assault of a councillor in the state.

The affected aides were disengaged following the conclusion of investigations into the attack on Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, the councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred last week, had gone viral on social media.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the decision was conveyed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, based on the findings of a special committee set up to probe the incident.

According to the statement, the committee’s report, further corroborated by security agencies, informed the governor’s decision to disengage the aides.

“Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has approved the immediate disengagement of Adamu Abdullahi Danko and three other aides following the investigation into the physical assault on Hon. Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, the councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe Local Government Area,” the statement said.

It added that the decision followed the constitution of a special committee to investigate the incident.

“The findings of the committee, which were further corroborated by reports from security agencies, informed the governor’s action,” it stated.

The affected aides were identified as:

  • Adamu Abdullahi Danko, Senior Special Assistant II (Domestic)
  • Garba Mohammed Mai Rago, Senior Special Assistant II (Political)
  • Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar, Senior Special Assistant II (Social Media)
  • Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya, Senior Special Assistant II (Community Relations)

Mr. Yahaya directed that the disengagement take immediate effect and instructed the aides to hand over all government property in their possession to the appropriate authorities without delay.

The statement noted that the governor reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, misconduct, and abuse of office, stressing that actions capable of threatening public peace or undermining public confidence in government would not be condoned.

He also assured the people of Gombe State of his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, accountability, and peaceful coexistence, adding that decisive measures would always be taken to safeguard public order and sustain the state’s stability.
