The High Court of Lagos State has announced its 2025 Christmas vacation, with proceedings set to pause from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, January 2, 2026, while regular court sittings will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The vacation was approved by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, pursuant to Order 49 Rules 4(c) and 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, which empower the Chief Judge to fix vacation periods and make provisions for urgent judicial business.

This was disclosed in a public notice signed by the Chief Registrar of the High Court, Mr. T. A. Elias, and dated November 26, 2025.

The notice confirmed that the vacation period covers the stated dates, both inclusive, in line with established court practice.

Despite the suspension of regular hearings during the Christmas vacation, the court clarified that judicial activities will not be completely halted.

According to the notice, each judge is authorised to hear and determine all urgent applications connected to substantive cases already assigned to them.

In addition, any fresh urgent application that is not linked to an existing substantive suit will be handled by a judge specifically designated for that purpose during the vacation period.

The notice further emphasised that, notwithstanding the general break, any cause or matter may still be entertained by a judge where it is duly certified as urgent.

However, such applications must strictly comply with all conditions stipulated under Order 49 Rule 5 of the Lagos High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
