The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC), chaired by Chief Judge Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, has taken major disciplinary actions against judicial officers and staff following its 88th meeting held on 1 December 2025.

In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Kano State Judiciary, Ambassador Baba Jibo Ibrahim, said the decisions were based on findings by the Judiciary Public Complaint Committee (JPCC), which investigated allegations of misconduct, ethical breaches and criminal infractions.

One of the cases reviewed involved Umar Bala Musa, a judge of the Upper Shari’a Court, Dambatta. The JPCC found that he failed to release the record of proceedings within the constitutionally mandated seven days, despite several requests over a three-month period.

The Commission adopted the committee’s recommendation and issued a formal warning, directing the judge to adhere strictly to constitutional timelines and judicial ethics.

The Commission also considered allegations against Saifuddeen Mukhtar Abdullahi, a Principal Registrar at the Kano Multi-Door Courthouse. Investigators found evidence linking him to the alleged misappropriation of cooperative investment funds, including forged signatures and contradictory financial records.

The JSC approved his immediate suspension without pay and referred the matter to the police for further investigation in line with the Kano State Civil Service Rules.

The Commission noted a report from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) confirming that Kamal Ado, a Senior Clerical Officer attached to Kurna Sharia Court, had been charged before the Federal High Court for criminal conspiracy, drug-related offences, assault on officers and tampering with court exhibits.

Findings showed he participated in an attack that damaged an official vehicle and facilitated the unlawful release of a suspect. The Commission suspended him without pay pending the conclusion of his trial.

In another case, the JSC reviewed the status of Ibrahim Adamu, who had served a six-month suspension for previous misconduct. Having shown remorse and significantly improved his conduct, the Commission lifted his four-year promotion deferral and directed that he be reconsidered for promotion subject to passing the required examinations.

According to the statement, the JSC reiterated its commitment to accountability, discipline and integrity, stressing that ethical conduct within the judiciary remains non-negotiable.
