The United States Department of Justice has announced it will release files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation within 30 days, following legislation passed by Congress and signed by President Donald Trump.

Attorney General Pam Bondi made the disclosure on Wednesday, saying the department will comply with the law while ensuring the protection of sex-trafficking victims’ identities and sensitive information that could affect ongoing investigations.

The move comes after Congress passed, with near-unanimous support, a bill mandating the public release of documents from the long-running investigation into Epstein’s activities and associations, including links to prominent figures such as President Trump. The legislation allows the Justice Department up to 30 days from the signing to make all unclassified records, communications, and investigative materials publicly available in a searchable and downloadable format.

Bondi stated, “We will continue to follow the law and encourage maximum transparency.” She noted that over 33,000 Epstein-related documents have already been shared with Congress.

The release of the files is expected to reignite political tensions, given Epstein’s high-profile connections and conspiracy theories surrounding his death in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges.

The bill also contains several exceptions, allowing the Justice Department to withhold information that could compromise ongoing investigations, which could delay or limit the scope of the release.

Meanwhile, President Trump recently directed the agency to investigate Democrats connected to Epstein, raising concerns that some materials could be selectively disclosed. Courts have previously denied requests to release certain transcripts related to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s cases.

The Justice Department’s forthcoming release will provide unprecedented insight into Epstein’s activities, although questions remain about how complete the files will be and what they may reveal about his network of associates.
