Scores of Nigerian soldiers were injured after terrorists ambushed troops deployed to rescue abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

The attack occurred just 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered Operation Fasan Yamma forces to intensify efforts to recover the schoolgirls. Shaibu had directed, “You must continue day and night fighting. We must find these children,” stressing that commanders should rely on intelligence for precise operations and act decisively.

Troops embarked on a 24-hour mission to ensure the safe return of the abducted students when they were met with heavy gunfire from terrorists. Video footage obtained by reporters shows wounded soldiers lying on the ground awaiting medical attention. One soldier, speaking in Hausa, said, “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”

The ambush also left the operational vehicle riddled with bullet holes, highlighting the intensity of the confrontation. Security forces are continuing rescue operations while providing urgent care to the injured soldiers.

Authorities have reassured the public that efforts to recover the kidnapped schoolgirls remain ongoing, with the military maintaining that the safety of both civilians and troops is a top priority.
