The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that Lieutenant A. M. Yerima was trailed by unidentified individuals in two unmarked white Hilux vans in Kubwa on Sunday evening.

The story, which circulated widely on social media, alleged that the occupants of the vehicles, dressed in black, followed the officer from the NIPCO Station off the Kubwa Expressway through Gado Nasko Road around 6 p.m., prompting the officer to carry out escape manoeuvres to evade them.

Responding to the report, the Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said no such incident had been reported or recorded in the FCT.

“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt Ahmed Yerima. The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory,” she said.

She urged the public to disregard the claims and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.

“For the safety of all residents, the public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police division or through the Command’s emergency numbers,” Adeh added.

Meanwhile, military sources have confirmed that the alleged trailing incident is being investigated.

Fresh indications also suggest that the military has deployed personnel and eight patrol vehicles to the Gado Nasko Road area of Kubwa. According to sources, a convoy of military vehicles was sighted around 7 p.m. on Sunday, a move believed to be connected to concerns raised about the officer’s safety.

The nature of the alleged trailing incident and the identity of the individuals in the unmarked vehicles remain subjects of ongoing military inquiry.
