The Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, has reaffirmed that the ongoing strike by judiciary workers in Osun State will persist until all outstanding promotion issues are fully addressed and ratified.

Speaking at an emergency JUSUN congress in Osogbo on Thursday, Adeniran said the industrial action was backed by the labour movement and driven by union members’ determination to secure their rights. The meeting, he noted, was aimed at reminding members of the reasons for the strike and reinforcing their collective commitment.

“The strike has not been called off because it was directed by the JUSUN National Secretariat. Until they instruct otherwise, we remain on strike,” Adeniran declared.

He emphasised that the union’s grievances extend beyond any planned meetings with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), insisting that a formal agreement must be reached before negotiations can proceed.

“Our strike is beyond the JSC meeting. We must have an agreement before any Judiciary Service Commission meeting can take place,” he added.

Adeniran also informed members that the national president of JUSUN, Marwan Adamu, had agreed to visit Osun State in solidarity with the workers. He stressed that he could not negotiate alone and that any discussions must involve both members and the national leadership of the union.

The union chairman assured workers that promotion letters would be issued before the strike could be suspended. He insisted that the previously scrapped 2023 promotion exercise must be ratified for the industrial action to end.

“The 2023 promotion must be ratified; that is a major condition for ending this strike,” he stated firmly, pledging transparency, unity, and continued advocacy for members’ rights.

Supporting the judiciary workers, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, affirmed that the strike was legitimate and that workers would not face intimidation. He lamented the national situation, noting that legitimate demands often now require industrial action.

“It is unfortunate that we now have to fight this hard to get what is rightfully ours. Our right must be given to us, and as far as NLC is concerned, we are in this together,” Arapasopo said.

He appealed to the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, to implement the state government-approved 2024 and 2025 promotions for JUSUN members. Arapasopo noted that workers in other states had already received their promotions while Osun judiciary staff remained sidelined, urging prompt action to restore industrial harmony.
