Paul Chen, a 47-year-old Chinese national, was among 824 new lawyers officially called to the Bar on Friday, October 10, 2025.

The ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, drew members of the Judiciary, the General Legal Council, distinguished members of the Bar, family, and well-wishers.

An old student of TI Ahmadiyya Secondary School, Chen holds a law degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Having moved to Ghana at a young age, he currently engages in business in Kumasi.

“When I came to Ghana, I thought becoming a lawyer would be very useful. Legal knowledge is a powerful tool, and it will help me with my business here,” Chen said in an interview with Mr Sly on YouTube on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Reflecting on his time at the Ghana School of Law, he described the experience as challenging but rewarding, expressing gratitude to lecturers and judges who supported him throughout his studies. “It’s been a long journey, and without their help, it would have been a lot harder. I am very grateful,” he said.

Chen’s name was met with loud applause, cheers, and chants from attendees as he received his Call to the Bar Certificate of Enrollment. His certificate was presented by the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, in a ceremony that celebrated the accomplishments of all 824 new lawyers, including the 2025 overall best Ghana School of Law graduate, Latifa Teiya Fuseini.
