According to police reports, the robbery occurred on September 29, 2025, around 3:30 a.m., when the armed gang invaded the apartment complex, killing Maduagwu and the security guard in cold blood.
Days after the incident, four suspects — Shamsudeen Hassan, Abubakar Alkamu, Sani Sirajo, and one other accomplice — were arrested through the tracking of mobile phones stolen from the victims during the robbery.
During interrogation, Shamsudeen confessed to shooting the security guard when he attempted to prevent the gang from entering the premises. Sirajo, on his part, admitted trying to hold Ms. Maduagwu as she fell from the third floor of the building but was unable to sustain her weight.
Shamsudeen further revealed that he drove the victims’ white Honda CR-V away from the scene after the operation, adding that each gang member received ₦200,000 from the proceeds of the robbery.
Recovered exhibits from the suspects include one fabricated AK-47 rifle, 36 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a locally-made pistol, one pump-action gun, two live cartridges, four mobile phones belonging to the victims, two sharp knives, one cutlass, and nine torchlights used during the operation.
Continuing the investigation, police operatives, acting on fresh intelligence, intercepted three other members of the gang including Musa Umar (Small) and Hassan Isah on October 8, 2025, while they were reportedly on their way to carry out another robbery operation in Maitama, Abuja.
All twelve suspects have reportedly confessed to their roles in the crime.
The FCT Commissioner of Police commended the Scorpion Squad for their swift and effective operation, assuring residents that the command remains committed to eradicating violent crime and bringing perpetrators of such acts to justice.
He further emphasized that the command is intensifying efforts to recover remaining stolen items and apprehend any accomplices still at large.
