Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, has officially left the Labour Party (LP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chukwu, who assumed office after replacing his late brother, Oyibo Chukwu the former Labour Party candidate and ex-chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oji-River branch, who was tragically assassinated on February 22, 2025, while returning from a campaign disclosed the move during a town hall meeting at the village market square in his constituency.

Addressing his constituents, the senator said his decision to leave LP was influenced by the ongoing crisis within the party, which he said has deeply affected its members. He further dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an option, describing it as currently engulfed in political turmoil.

Chukwu announced that he would formally declare his allegiance to APC on the floor of the Senate when plenary resumes. He thanked his constituents for their unwavering support since assuming office and assured them that he would continue to serve their interests diligently.

The town hall meeting was attended by dignitaries including the immediate-past state Chairman of the APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye, and traditional leaders. In his remarks, Nwoye commended Chukwu for joining the ruling party, describing it as a strategic decision that would benefit both the senator and his constituents.
