The Niger State Judicial Service Commission (NJSC) has announced the appointment of 100 new judicial staff, including 10 magistrates, to bolster the state’s judiciary workforce, following approval by Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.

Making the disclosure in Minna, Hon. Adamu Usman, Chairman of the NJSC Sub-Committee on Information, said the recruitment process was transparent and covered a variety of roles.

The appointments include 10 Sharia Court judges, 30 legal research assistants, 20 programme analysts, 15 interpreters, and 15 executive officers.

He added that four staff members from the High Court and Sharia Court of Appeal were instructed to vacate their positions after failing their promotion examinations three times, in line with NJSC regulations.

“Four staff members, comprising three from the High Court and one from the Sharia Court of Appeal, have been instructed to disengage after failing their promotion examinations for three consecutive attempts. This decision aligns with Order 8 Rule (4)(f) of the NJSC regulations established in 2025,” Usman explained.

In another development, Usman disclosed that the NJSC has set up a committee to investigate allegations of misconduct against Mohammed Shaba, who allegedly circulated a disparaging video about the Chief Judge and the judiciary. A four-member sub-committee will conduct inquiries and ensure a fair hearing.

Additionally, the NJSC has approved retirement notifications for 10 staff members and issued death certificates for two deceased staff members from the High Court and Sharia Court of Appeal.
