The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to investigate alleged irregularities in letters assigning judicial duties to judges, reportedly issued from his office by a personal assistant.

At a press conference in Osogbo yesterday, PDP Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi described the letter, allegedly written on August 21, 2025, by Joshua Ibrahim Aji, Esq., Special Assistant to the Chief Judge, as a “gross aberration.” The letter reportedly assigned a judicial duty to a Federal High Court judge.

“Proxies or personal assistants cannot exercise judicial powers. These powers are reserved exclusively for judicial officers,” Bisi stated. “Yet, that is the abnormal situation we are confronted with, which necessitated this press conference.”

Bisi added that a subsequent letter, dated September 2, 2025, was signed on behalf of the Special Assistant, further compounding the irregularity. He emphasised that under the Federal High Court Act, the power to transfer a matter from one judge to another can only be exercised through a formal application in open court before the presiding judge, and not secretly or via an aide.

Questioning why a case filed in the Osogbo Division was allegedly transferred to Abuja, Bisi demanded that it be returned to its regular court and insisted that any transfer application must be made openly before the presiding judge.

The case in question, FHC/Os/CS/94/2025, involves the Osun State Government’s suit against the Central Bank and ORS, challenging the release of local government funds to alleged illegal political functionaries in the state.
