Senior Partner at The Law Crest, Tobenna Erojikwe, has officially announced the launch of The Practical Training Academy (TPTA), a platform designed to offer free and high-quality continuing professional development (CPD) initiatives to Nigerian legal practitioners.
Speaking on September 14, 2025, Erojikwe highlighted that his two decades of experience across various jurisdictions have shaped his commitment to professional development for lawyers. He recounted his journey, which began as a Learning and Development Lead early in his career, and included serving as a Law Society of England and Wales-accredited facilitator. He also held leadership roles in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), including four years as Chairman of the CPD Committee of the NBA Lagos Branch and nearly four years as Chairman of the Board of the NBA Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE).
During his tenure as CPD Committee Chairman in Lagos, Erojikwe led a team that hosted over 48 knowledge-sharing sessions and established a mentorship program with 220 participants. At NBA-ICLE, he and his colleagues transformed the institute into a self-sustaining entity while delivering more than 200 training sessions across 40 areas of law and 127 thematic topics, attracting over 60,000 participants who accessed the programs free of charge.
Reflecting on the legal profession, Erojikwe noted that persistent knowledge gaps continue to hinder the delivery of high-quality legal services across sectors of the Nigerian economy. “Despite progress, the desire for growth and development among legal professionals remains strong,” he said.
Driven by the need to democratise learning and expand lawyers’ practice areas, Erojikwe, with support from friends and colleagues, established TPTA. The academy has recently been accredited as an NBA-ICLE service provider, enabling it to offer professional development trainings and award CPD credit points to participating lawyers.
Erojikwe revealed that TPTA has developed a comprehensive, data-driven syllabus spanning multiple subjects and practice areas. The academy is engaging esteemed practitioners—including in-house counsel, private practitioners, law officers, and foreign law firms—to serve as faculty for continuous training programs.
Expressing gratitude to partner institutions and organisations supporting the initiative, Erojikwe said, “I am confident that through these trainings, TPTA will add significant value to the practices of all our colleagues who participate while earning CPD points at no cost. Our course outline and training schedule will be released in the coming weeks.”
The launch of TPTA represents a major step in advancing legal education and professional development for lawyers in Nigeria, offering accessible, high-quality training to strengthen the profession.
