Former Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tonye Cole, has called on Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to make his political allegiance clear.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, the Sahara Group co-founder advised Wike to formally join the APC to dispel doubts over his loyalties.

Wike, a former Rivers State governor, has been central to the ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since the 2023 general elections, even as he serves in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led government.

Cole argued that a formal declaration by Wike would strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and bring stability to Rivers State politics.

“Is he APC or is he PDP? As far as we know today, he is PDP. We cannot continue confusing the electorate in Rivers State and Nigerians because it is dangerous for democracy; that you are in one party and controlling another party,” Cole said.

He urged Wike to act honourably by leaving the PDP and joining the APC, emphasizing that such a move would unify the party bloc and allow other political parties to operate freely within the democratic space.

Wike, however, has consistently maintained that he remains a PDP member despite his position in the APC-led administration.
