The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has dismissed suggestions that technical glitches were responsible for cases of malpractice flagged during its 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening exercise.
The computer-based test, which ran from September 1 to 4, had attracted social media claims and circulated emails alleging that candidates were wrongly accused of misconduct due to system errors.
In a statement on Wednesday, UNILAG management clarified that the breaches under review stemmed from “clear violations” of examination rules rather than technical faults.
“These detections followed the use of multiple monitoring mechanisms, including secure video surveillance,” the university explained.
While stressing that it would not release uncensored video recordings to the public due to data protection and legal restrictions, the institution said it may publish anonymised screenshots to illustrate the types of misconduct recorded.
The clarification comes amid mounting concern from parents and prospective students questioning the credibility of the screening process.
UNILAG advised candidates to disregard unofficial communications and rely solely on its verified platforms.
“The University of Lagos reiterates its unwavering commitment to integrity, fairness, and transparency in its admissions process, and will not be distracted by conjectures or misinformation,” the statement added.
