The immediate-past Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, SAN, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring violent attacks on leaders and members of the Opposition Coalition’s Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).

Malami, who resigned from the APC on July 2, 2025, and later joined the ADC, raised the alarm on Monday following a solidarity visit to his Abuja residence by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

TheNigeriaLawyer recalls that Malami’s convoy was attacked last week Monday by suspected political thugs in Kebbi State while returning from a condolence visit. The former Minister said the attack was part of a wider pattern of politically motivated assaults on ADC leaders across the country.

Citing incidents in Kaduna and Lagos, Malami alleged that the APC was orchestrating coordinated violence to intimidate the opposition. He pointed to an attack in Kaduna where thugs stormed an ADC coalition meeting led by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, assaulting attendees and vandalizing vehicles. In Lagos, he said, a rally featuring Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour was disrupted by hoodlums who injured participants and scattered the gathering.

“These incidents, happening in quick succession across different states, highlight a disturbing pattern of coordinated political violence designed to silence dissent and weaken democratic opposition,” Malami said.

On his verified Facebook page, he expressed gratitude to Atiku for the solidarity visit, describing it as a timely show of support in the face of what he called “APC-sponsored thuggery.” He emphasized that Nigeria’s democracy must be protected from intimidation, impunity, and violence.

“I remain steadfast in my commitment to justice and the protection of the citizens of our nation. The events in Kebbi State serve as a stark warning against the politicization of violence and the deliberate attempt to undermine democratic institutions for partisan advantage. Such acts must be unequivocally condemned and addressed through the law,” he wrote.

Malami called for unity across political lines to safeguard peace, security, and democracy, stressing that the path to a stronger Nigeria lies in justice and truth rather than intimidation or brute force.
