Polish authorities have arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian citizen for using a counterfeit residence document, officials confirmed.
The individual was detained by the Polish Border Guard (Straż Graniczna) as part of ongoing efforts to combat irregular migration and document forgery. The arrest was reported on the Border Guard Headquarters’ news portal on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
According to the report, the Nigerian man admitted ordering the fake document online while in the United Kingdom, receiving it by post after paying €2,000. He had been in Poland illegally for four days at the time of his arrest.
The Commander of the Border Guard subsequently ordered the man to leave the country within 20 days and imposed a three-year ban on his entry into the Schengen Area. He was also charged under Article 270 § 1 of the Polish Penal Code for using a counterfeit document. The suspect pleaded guilty and accepted the penalty but declined to provide further explanation.
Legal experts noted that many individuals who use counterfeit documents are often victims of sophisticated scams. Ibrahim, as he was identified in reports, remained in detention until the case was clarified.
Law enforcement agencies across Poland have intensified operations to dismantle criminal networks distributing fake documents. A recent Europol-supported operation led to the arrest of dozens of suspects and the seizure of thousands of counterfeit residence permits, visas, and other forms of identification.
