Operatives of the Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, have dislodged hideouts belonging to notorious IPOB/ESN commanders in the state.

The operation took place last Tuesday at Ubaa, Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo.

In a statement issued in Owerri on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, said the action was part of sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and restore peace across communities.

Okoye explained that the operation followed credible intelligence and confessional statements from arrested suspects, Uchenna Opara and Ozioma Ihedoro.

According to him, on sighting the operatives, the armed terrorists opened fire but were subdued by the superior firepower of the security forces, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes with gunshot wounds.

He added that a thorough search of the dislodged camps led to the recovery of two Biafra flags, one POS machine, one AK-47 rifle with three magazines, forty rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, sixty rounds of live GPMG ammunition, two pump-action guns, and 582 live cartridges.

The Police spokesman further noted that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, working with other security agencies, has called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.

He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to safety and urged everyone to remain law-abiding and make use of the emergency line when necessary.
