President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe, has urged Ibom Air to retrain its crew members following a controversial incident involving the airline’s air hostesses and a female passenger, Comfort Emmanson.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Osigwe said there was a need for a meeting to address crew etiquette, procedures for enforcing airline bans, and how such measures should be carried out legally and civilly.

He faulted the actions of the airline staff who filmed the passenger, claiming they exposed her “nudity” and subjected her to public ridicule. According to him, such behaviour not only degraded the passenger but also reflected poorly on the airline.

“Airlines need to educate their cabin crew,” Osigwe said, criticising what he described as the crew’s “over-sensitivity” to incidents that could have been ignored to de-escalate tensions. “Their language, tone and approach are unnecessary.”

He noted that passengers also have legal obligations while on board, stressing the need for mutual understanding and proper conduct from both crew and passengers.

Osigwe added that retraining would help prevent future conflicts, protect passenger dignity, and safeguard the reputation of Nigeria’s aviation industry.

Citing a previous case involving Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, Osigwe observed that while his actions threatened passengers’ safety, it was the Ibom Air passenger who was the victim  that was initially banned, a decision that has since been reversed.
