The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has called on the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to review its suspension of a ValueJet pilot and her assistant following the August 5 security breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident reportedly involved popular musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1, who allegedly disrupted a Lagos-bound ValueJet flight.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos, NAAPE National President Galadima Abednego urged the NCAA to ensure a transparent, unbiased, and open investigation into the matter.

Abednego acknowledged that the ValueJet Captain Ranti Ogoyi could have exercised better discretion but strongly condemned the musician’s behaviour, describing it as “crude” and “unruly.”

“Aviation rests on two pillars safety and security and as a frontline professional association, NAAPE places the highest premium on these principles,” he said.

While commending the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the NCAA Director-General for their swift action, Abednego insisted that K1 should be held fully accountable for his actions.

He appealed to the NCAA to restore the licences of the suspended pilots,Captain Ranti Ogoy noting their long-standing unblemished records.

“NAAPE calls on the authorities to lay the blame on KWAM 1 and make him face the full wrath of the law to prevent future incidents. While we are not against investigation, we demand it be open, transparent, and unbiased. The intense provocation caused by KWAM 1’s actions stretched the tolerance of seasoned pilots,” Abednego stated.

He also urged ValueJet to continue supporting the affected crew members and called on passengers to cooperate with aviation authorities and workers, emphasising that safety remains the industry’s top priority.

The Fuji singer has since issued a public apology after being blacklisted from domestic and international travel via Nigerian airports.
