The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning to social media influencer Mr. Martins Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man, cautioning him against actions or statements that could incite tension or disrupt public peace in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Awka, following Otse’s announcement of a planned candlelight procession to honour the late Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, former Managing Director of Fish Magnet outlet.

Onyekere was recently abducted and murdered by suspected gunmen in Awka. Otse had stated that the procession was intended to draw attention from both federal and state governments to the worsening security situation in Anambra.

However, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, warned Otse against inciting unrest, emphasizing that the family of the late Onyekere has publicly dissociated itself from any candlelight procession or memorial event organized in his name.

“The family has pleaded to be allowed to grieve privately and trusts the authorities to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act,” Ikenga quoted Orutugu as saying.

The Police Commissioner highlighted that Anambra remains one of the most peaceful states in the region due to the sustained efforts of security agencies working with key stakeholders.

He reiterated that no individual, regardless of their social status, would be permitted to undermine the peace and security architecture in the state.

The Police Command urged residents to continue their lawful activities without fear and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order.

Social media users and public figures were also advised to exercise caution, avoid spreading misinformation, and refrain from making provocative remarks that could disrupt peace.

The command warned that anyone found attempting to undermine public peace, whether online or offline, would be dealt with according to the full extent of the law.
