The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has officially renamed the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop, in honour of acclaimed Nigerian rapper, Olamide Adedeji, widely known as Baddo.

The renaming is part of a broader initiative by the council to recognise local and national icons who have contributed significantly to the community and the country through their talent, leadership, and influence.

Announcing the changes on the final day of his administration, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, Chairman of Bariga LCDA, said the move aims to celebrate individuals who have elevated Bariga’s name and Nigeria’s reputation on the global stage.

“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of our people who have put the name of our local council out on the global map through their respective God-given talents and craft, as well as eminent personalities in our nation and our beloved state,” Alabi stated. “Today, we officially rename these streets in honour of their legacies.”

Other streets renamed as part of the initiative include:

  • Ilaje Road → King Sunny Ade Road
  • Bariga Road → Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
  • Community Road, Akoka → Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road
  • Ajidagan Street → Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street
  • Ifeanyi Street → Abolore Akande (9ice) Street
  • Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak → Tony Tetuila Street
  • Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro → Bukayo Saka Street

The street renaming exercise follows a similar move by Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, which recently renamed 24 streets in its jurisdiction to honour notable Nigerians.

Olamide, who hails from Bariga, is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists in Africa’s music industry and has frequently referenced his roots in his music. His recognition reflects growing efforts to preserve cultural heritage while celebrating excellence within Nigerian communities.
